Whangamata Area School Board of Trustees is excited to announce the appointment of Alistair Luke as Principal. He replaces Ross Preece who will take up a new position as Principal at Ashburton College in the New Year.
Mr Luke is an outstanding educator who stood out in a strong field of experienced candidates to gain the unanimous support of the BOT. The board has complete confidence that he will lead the school with vision and integrity. They look forward to working closely with him to enhance Whangamata Area School's role in the community and create even better opportunities for all students.

Welcome to our Whangamata Area School website. Our vision is to “promote excellence in all aspects of school life”. As an area school we are ideally placed to provide our students with the skills and attributes that will allow them to thrive in the future. Many of our most successful students spend all of their 13 years of school with us.
Our school was formed as an Area School in 1985 and it provides quality education to school students in beautiful Whangamata. We encourage a family atmosphere where staff, pupils and their families all enjoy the state of the art facilities we have to offer. A feature of W.A.S. is that our pupils have plenty of staff and community support for their learning because it is a smaller school.
Our school offers a full range of academic courses plus plenty of opportunities to be involved in numerous sporting, cultural, leadership and extra curricular events. We are proud of the students we produce and of their achievements.
