Whangamata Area School Board of Trustees Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funds for a Whangamata Area School student entering their first year at university, apprenticeship or comparable working, sporting or social career.

The intention of this scholarship is to provide funds to a student in a field that has minimal funding opportunities.



Applicants must be a Year 11,12 or 13, NZ citizen studying at Whangamata Area School and,

  • entering into a formal apprenticeship or equivalent industry “pathway”.
  • Or, enrolling at University or alternative Tertiary education provider.
  • Or, pursuing a career in sporting, cultural or social excellence. 


Every application must be accompanied by:

  • certified copies of the applicant’s NCEA Levels 1 and 2 (or equivalent) results. Certified Year 13 Results must be sent as soon as they are received.
  • a statement outlining the reasons for applying for the scholarship.
  • two written personal references with current contact details.
  • tertiary course application acceptance letter, apprenticeship contract or equivalent first year work contract.
  • a certified copy of birth certificate and proof of New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.



Whangamata Area School Board of Trustees Scholarship


 There will be one scholarship awarded annually. The value of the scholarship will be $2000.

The scholarship must be taken up within one year from when it was awarded.

Payment will be made in one instalment.



The scholarship shall be made on the recommendation of a Selection Committee whose membership is made from the current Board of Trustees.


In determining the suitability of the applicant, the following factors will be considered:

  • involvement in sporting, cultural and social activities in school and in the local community.
  • academic ability and achievement.
  • evidence of leadership qualities.
  • likelihood of further achievement.


The Selection Committee’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting.
